Lbusd Calendar 2020 21
Lbusd Calendar 2020 21 – Schools across Long Beach are closed, but the city's largest landowner isn't letting them sit idle. Anyone driving around town during the COVID-19 shutdown has likely noticed blue construction blankets around some facilities in the Long Beach Unified School District.
That's because the district is using this rare period when all district facilities are closed to students for several months (instead of the usual 10-week summer break) to begin the project.

"To support our educational efforts, we have used this time to continue work originally planned for the summer," said Alan Reising, LBUSD Business Services Administrator for Design and Development. -Development of Facilities.

Thanks to construction bonds, Measure E and Measure K, the district has planned construction in many of its schools, and the entire district is expected to install air conditioners in the next few years.
HVAC changes are one of the projects expedited during this shutdown. Because these installations often require electrical upgrades and other major work, schools must move classrooms during the school year when the buildings are no longer in use—which is not a problem when the Level will be held in an empty campus.
Reising also noted that while classrooms are empty, the campuses themselves are still occupied, as many schools in the district continue to offer free breakfast and lunch to all Long Beach children age 1 -18, whether they go to school or not. .

The program was a huge success, with more than 250,000 meals donated in the first five weeks of the program.
"We have all of our monitoring teams to make sure our schools are properly cleaned and disinfected and to support our community food service program," Reising said.
These surveillance and maintenance teams are still present throughout the city. Aside from the postponed construction and maintenance projects, there are still pools, grass and trees that need maintenance, all of which are maintained according to the usual schedule.

Construction also continues at Millikan High, where the Rams are slated to become the next LBUSD high school to get a stadium upgrade. The Rams football team recently released this design image for the facility, which faces west on Palo Verde Avenue. Millikan recently renamed its DeHaven Stadium facility in honor of legendary football coach Dick DeHaven, who led the Rams to their two CIF-SS sports This titles.
With the field upgraded to turf and the track upgraded from dirt to an all-weather surface on the school's dark green, some Rams fans are hoping to see a field named in honor of Rodin Petkovic. Petkovic, who recently retired, won a CIF-SS title at Millikan as the men's soccer and track and field coach.
LBUSD schools aren't the only facilities being upgraded during this unusual disruption. The Cherry Park baseball fields used by the Uptown Long Beach Baseball and Softball League (a Cal Ripken affiliate) were also completed.

The fields of Cherry Park were lasered in the last weeks, the indoor environments were renewed this week, and 30 tons of new field mix for all the fields.

"The board is reviewing steps to student instructional schedules for the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school years," said LBUSD Assistant Superintendent Leisa Winston. "Updates regarding student instructional schedules are still available on the district's website."
Important are the start of the school year, Thanksgiving and the winter vacation schedule, as well as student-free days. The proposed school year change has a start date before Labor Day and a first semester end date before winter break.
The committee's original calendar proposal for 2019-2020 included 180 school days starting on August 21, 2019, the week of Thanksgiving, three school days for the entire district, starting a week and a half earlier (more two weeks later in the year ), finals will end before winter break, and the school year will end earlier in June.

The main thing is to end the fall semester for winter break so that students and families can enjoy the break without homework.
"The main goal is to have a semester break before winter break. This is the number one thing that benefits students and their families the most," said council president Jan Vickers.
The revised calendar includes a start date of August 26, 2019, the same Thanksgiving week as the current calendar (Monday and Tuesday are school days), the first semester ends with winter break, and two student-free days.

"All of us at the council want to do what's best for the children. We're just trying to figure out what it is, and sometimes we don't know, and the parents themselves don't know. We're all just trying to figure it out," said board member Dee Perry. "So I'd like to see a compromise calendar."
The board will consider action regarding the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 student academic calendars at tonight's LBUSD board meeting.
For the 2020-2021 calendar year, the committee presented two revised versions based on the council's recommendations, A and B:
Lb Area Summer Camps
Version A – School starts on August 24, 2020. Thanksgiving remains the same (Monday and Tuesday are school days), the first term ends on Friday 5/18/12, two days without students and the end of the school year is June 10.
Version B – The start date is August 26, 2020. Thanksgiving week remains the same, and the first semester ends on Tuesday, December 22 with two days of student break (May 4). 1 March 12 academic year June 10
Board Chair Jan Vickers listed the many benefits of the calendar change, including:

Reorganizing the semester to end Semester 1 during winter break (80 days after winter break) will positively impact the 1,800 students at Thurston and LBHS. Students finish the semester, have a two-week vacation, and the board ensures that no homework is done during this time. The students were able to relax mentally.
June events, including university orientation, are usually in June. Students have more instructional days before important exams and fewer classes after the exam and less extra tutoring.
According to a release from the LBUSD board, the board allowed this process to be lengthy and inclusive to allow for more discussion and get more feedback from the community. Changes were made to the proposed calendar based on feedback from parents and the community.
