The superintendent (or designee) determines the capacity of each school before enrolling students for each school year. As required by the Florida Constitution and state law, capacity determinations for any school include class size requirements. Capacity determination may include reserved space for ESE or other special programs.

Board Approves 2023 2024 School Calendar

Parents can request that their younger children be enrolled in the same school by submitting the application of all siblings in the same application. Siblings are defined as children who live at the same address and have the same guardian.

Parents with siblings currently enrolled in the Lee County School District will receive written notification prior to the first enrollment period indicating that the sibling is enrolled in the same school for the upcoming school year. Parents do not need to complete any documents unless there is a request to change the admitted school.

Each Residential/Choice Zone school has a district-defined "Safe Walking Zone" (two miles per Florida Statutes). The size of Safe Walking Zones varies according to (1) Residential/Preference Zone boundaries, (2) reasonable walking distances as defined by Florida Statutes, and (3) safe walking conditions. Students who live in the Safe Walk Zone-Preference Distance 1 (P1) and choose the school are given priority in the admissions process over students who live outside the P1 Safe Walk Zone, based on their higher priority and opportunity. High school only has P1 as affinity preference. This is because secondary schools offer special programs that attract students from many sub-zones within the zone. Students may choose longer bus travel times at the high school level to meet their educational needs.

Distance preference applies to students applying for grades 2 (P2) KG to 8. It provides a second distance preference, which ranges approximately 5 miles from end of P1 area.

Students living in this zone will be given priority in the lottery for schools located further away from their permanent residence.

All students applying in grades KG to 8 who live approximately 5 miles from school will be given a random school distance preference of 3 (P3) in the enrollment zone closest to their permanent residence, which is the same weight as P2. lottery.

Students who do not enroll in a required attraction program school in the zone will be named in the pool eligible to transfer to the attraction program school of first choice. Siblings of students studying in schools that move from one zone to another, or from one sub-zone to another sub-zone, are not allowed to attend a school without in a Residential/Choice Zone.
