At LMU, the school consists of two consecutive 6-week semesters, each semester lasting 16 weeks. A final exam is included in each 6-week period. Sessions do not overlap and students can attend both sessions. due to the compressed course nature Therefore, students are limited to 8 semesters per semester.

The Department of Classics and Archeology has put together a calendar of events for this academic year as part of a new Unit 1 Learning Community experience featuring lectures and faculty adjuncts and partners. All courses are recorded and posted each semester. You can view the archived events for the semester below. Dr. Stavroula Golfomitsou, Head of Collections at Getty Conservation Institute, will present. Subjected to "Stand Still? Conservation as the Way Forward," the panel discussion will take place at the Macintosh Center at University Auditorium 3999. After class, each session will include a snack and dinner sponsored by the CLAR department and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts.

Our annual department meeting will be held on Thursday April 20, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM at the village of CLAR/THST (UH 3700). Seven of our students will present their research. This will be followed by Professor of Classics and Archeology Dr. Heidi Fessler. The presentation will be followed by department awards and lunch at the Bioethics Auditorium (UNH 4511). UK: LMU SUMMER AT OXFORD The LMU Summer at Oxford program is a four-week program at Queen's College where students experience the University of Oxford life: living in university residences. attend a lecture Dining in the Great Hall and visit the riverside during the day. Come this summer to explore Oxford and Queen's and walk the cobbled streets. Get lost in the great library afternoon tea and live in a city that once hosted celebrities like Oscar Wilde, J. R. R. Tolkien, Hugh Grant and Radiohead, and even Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.

Spend your summer in Bologna and join Cinema Ritrovato, the world's largest and most famous film revival festival! Ritrovato partners with over 25 institutions around the world dedicated to film revival, including the Martin Scorsese World Cinema Foundation. Learn from LMU faculty and earn LMU credit for film and television and animation studies programs.

Attending the week-long Cinema Ritrovato festival is a must. including a visit to the film restoration lab Leading the festival program will be led by LMU's Professor Carla Marcantonio.

*Students must have completed one semester of FTVS 2100: World Cinema 1 or FTVS 2117: World Cinema 2 by the end of spring 2023 or enrolled in one of these courses in the summer or fall semester of 2023.

Croatia: LMU SUMMER IN ZAGREB LMU Summer in Zagreb is a 5-week summer program exploring Zagreb, Croatia, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Vis, Croatia. This program examines the dynamics of conflict and the challenges involved in reconciliation with groups divided by distrust and hostility. Students will take two courses offering 8 LMU core credits with multiple core and markup completions. You will meet and talk with survivors of war, politics, religion and intellectuals. This will help you examine their tendencies toward loneliness and violence in their own lives. and develop a habit of generosity and a peaceful attitude. The course will be delivered at the European Center for War and Peace Studies (ECSWP) in Sagrebat.

*This course is enough for 1 movement technique lesson for senior dancers or 1 movement technique credit for junior dancers.

Join us for a 4 week odyssey to explore, read and travel the rich lands and culture of the founding of Western civilization! The Odyssey project is an LMU faculty-led project that started in Athens. where students can visit the beautiful Acropolis, the ancient Agora, as well as the museums and art spaces surrounding the city. City walks and street art help students understand Athens as a modern European metropolis. The expedition continued with a week-long trip around Greece. Major attractions to visit: The ancient theaters of Epidavros, Mycenae, Corinth, Nafplio, Sparta, Mystra, Olympia, Delphi and Meteora were some of the places we visited. The remaining three weeks of study will take place on the beautiful island of Spetses, famous for its history. Unique architecture, villas and beautiful beaches. Students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Greek life.
