Gettysburg Spring 2023 Calendar
Gettysburg Spring 2023 Calendar – Say to Aaron and his sons, 'Bless the children of Israel,' and say to them.
Another year has passed. It was a year of change for our family. Moving from our first home as a family of four to one we can officially call our own. Christina is a full-time graduate of the master's program in social work. Gabs danced for a few nights and went on a full tour/competition. Noah started his first year playing basketball – something that made his father and grandfather very happy. For me, the transition from pastor to leader and all that comes with it.

Although we will each remember 2022 based on our different experiences, it will be a year of change for St. James as it is for our family. For many of us, this is the first year without Pastor Mike's guidance. It was a year that brought back feelings from a bygone era for the people around. This is the first year we have a new staff. Pastor Cliff has come and gone – moving on to other pastoral duties. We lost loved ones. Relationships ended, new ones began. We have brought new people, shared prayers, food and fellowship, laughed and cried.

As we look to 2023, it will continue to be one of change. Vicar Libby has started a one-year internship. But in the middle of the calling process, we welcome a new minister. At the end of our new big campaign in 2022, the Council is launching another kind of big campaign – an inclusive fundraising campaign. people rather than involving money. Although we brought in a good number of new faces last year and will have guests on stage every week, it is important that we think about welcoming and inviting others. We all have people in our lives who need organization, who need the good news of God through Christ.
New Year's traditions revolve around new resolutions. How about a New Year's resolution to focus on your faith? Will you commit yourself to a deep relationship with God and God's people?
Do you pray more? Give me more? Are you making a commission? Tell people what happened in St. James and invite them to be a part? Will you volunteer in our youth program or sing in one of our choirs?

It is easy for us to praise the past and focus on yesterday. Sit down and tell stories about people who no longer exist. But instead of having to think about what is happening behind us, what if we focus our energy on who and who God wants us to be at that time? Feed the hungry, clothe the poor, care for the weak. Keep making friends – call new people and connect with people we haven't met yet. God has blessed us with time, talent, and money. Christ is a torch of light for us.
Whatever the year ahead holds for you, seek God's blessings and peace and do what you can to give it to others. Because Jehovah our God protects us in everything. Through many life changes. The past is where we find ourselves and what is to come. And, what a blessing!
If you would like to volunteer overnight, please contact Debra Little at 717-334-4195. You will need an application, a warrant check at the Gettysburg Police Department, and a copy of your COVID vaccination certificate.

A few years ago, Marian and I took our children to New York City to see a show and do some shopping. It was the beginning of November and the weather was mild before the winter cold. Before we left, we picked up Adam's sweater and realized it was too small. He lived like a tree! We put him in a coat and headed to Manhattan, where our first order of business was to buy a bigger coat.
While we were buying a new coat, we asked the clerk if we could donate an old coat. We were told they are no longer accepting donations. Later, we went to a police station near Times Square. We're told the NYPD used to have jackets, but they don't anymore. Our best option, he said, is to give it to the homeless on the street or send it to the church.
Spring Nationals 2023
We passed a few homeless people, but there were no children among them. Finally we arrived at the church. Inside, a few people stopped to look at the structure, rest, pray, or warm up. After a while, a man came from the side door and I asked him if the church was collecting coats. He said we can put it on the table at the back of the church. We left the coat on the table, knowing there was little chance of finding an abandoned child that day. I remember that winter, Adam was next to me, praying for a coat to keep another child warm. Then we walked.
I've been thinking about that jacket for a long time. I was afraid that he would touch a child. I was afraid of being abandoned or lost. When I see the face of the boy who brought that coat, I know for sure. What is this dishonesty, do you need to know the next story? That blue dress taught me an important lesson: faith means doing the right thing even though you may never see the results. Sometimes faith means leaving the sacrifice at the altar and walking away.
We are called Christians from the beginning through baptism. It is "glorified in Christ" according to creation. As we bear the name of Christ, we have one Father and we are asked to speak closely to this parent: Abba! Jesus bears our sins in humble submission to the will of God. Today we pray that we receive the will of Christ, which we carry. A great way to start another year.

In the water of Jordan, Jesus was revealed as the beloved Son of God. Through this great revelation, Jesus will become a servant of God who will fulfill all the right things, bring justice and become a light to the nations. In the water of baptism, we are also washed with the Word, anointed with the Spirit, and called as beloved children of God. Our baptismal mission is to share the good news with all those who are suffering or need God's healing.
Today's Gospel begins with many reflections on the baptism of Jesus. He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world and is anointed by the Spirit. In the church service we come and see the revelation of Christ to us through words and food. We go to invite others to worship the Holy God and receive the gifts of grace and peace known to us.
Jesus began his public preaching by telling the fishermen to leave their nets and follow him. The kingdom of God is near to Jesus. We who were in darkness have seen great light. We see this light more deeply on the cross – when God suffers with us, and all those who suffer from sickness, sin, or evil. When we gather around the word, the alphabet, and the holy table, light shines upon us. Then we are sent to share the good news to "catch" others in the net of God's mercy and grace.

Who are God's blessed people? For Mekaio, they are righteous, loving, and walk humbly before God. For Paul, they had knowledge of the weakness of the cross. For Jesus, they are the poor, humble, kind, pure of heart, peaceful, sad, and eager for righteousness. In baptism we find our own happy identity with this way of life and service that is contrary to culture.
