As many readers know, James was homeless and struggling with addiction when Bob, a stray cat, entered his life. It was 2007 and they were inseparable until the end. Bob was James' assistant when he returned from walking down the street and started selling The Big Issue. In short order, their amazing connection took James in a new direction and eventually landed a book deal. The bestseller of 2012 became a best-selling series. Then came the movies. Bob said James before and after to save his life.

And around the world, James and Bob have used their growing global fame to draw attention to the issue of homelessness. Bob brought new people to The Big Issue. When they read about us in the books, people they hadn't known before were converted.

Over the years we have often seen Bob on the cover of An Iris Mòr. In fact, Bob has appeared 10 times more than anyone else (even an animal). And each time the salespeople cheered because Bob had star power. He promised sales and promised success for salespeople. James didn't have to do this. He could have gone home with the ball. He could tell you spent time with me. Now I will only tell people that I will accept money offers. But that's a testament to who he wasn't. His story and Bob's story have been intertwined with that of The Big Issue for over a decade. We are proud to have James as a friend.

But there was another reason our salespeople wanted to see Bob on the cover. All of us who have pets know how important pets are in our lives. They will become for many people the closest and most faithful allies. Much of this thought came into focus during lockdown. For marginalized people, many merchants and homeless people, connecting with their pets is even more important. It is the inspiration of life. So in Bob they recognized this connection. This invisible connection becomes supergravity. Animals will be saving people.
