Richmond offers an environment of collaborative learning and research, with a top business school and the nation's first school of leadership studies, offering a strong creative and liberal arts focus. With more than 100 majors, minors, and minors to study, 2 out of 3 majors explore multiple areas of study – just like our open curriculum.
Here, research is a priority and is encouraged in all fields of study. There are no graduate students who work in labs or libraries, so many students play an active role in research and development – even at the beginning of the year. They regularly collaborate with professors to conduct scientific research, author publications and presentations. It should be noted that many students receive scholarships to support their work. Through the Richmond Guarantee, each student is guaranteed up to $5,000 in funding for an internship or summer research project. With over 75 study abroad programs, we bring education to every corner of the world. More than two-thirds of our undergraduates spend time abroad – three times the national average. These off-campus events allow all students to combine academic pursuits with cultural immersion.
Richmond may be small, but we're big on sports. We are a Division 1 school with strong teams that compete in the A10 and State Athletic Conferences in soccer, basketball, lacrosse, swimming/diving, tennis, golf and more. Tickets are free for students, so you never miss a game. The Spiders also enjoy more than 170 clubs and student organizations, as well as the non-residential Greek lifestyle. More than 90 percent of undergraduate students choose to live in the residence halls, and freshmen and sophomores have the opportunity to join one of our study communities. These communities allow students with common interests to sit together and share learning experiences outside of the classroom. Students are deeply engaged in their studies and form lasting friendships with their classmates and teachers.
